This collar was developed based on existing bark collar technology to help dog owners train even their most stubborn barking companions.

A Citronella Bark Collar is one of the most effective methods to help your dog moderate their excessive barking. Painless and cruelty-free, the battery-operated collar can be a great solution to your dog’s behavioural issues. 

 

The breed of your dog, its age, and temperament will play a role in how effective the bark collar will be. These collars work by distracting your dog with the smell, the sensation and the sound of the spray being activated. This disrupts your dog’s behaviour and reinforces that barking at certain times is not appropriate.

How to use a citronella bark collar?

Using the Citronella Bark Collar is completely automated once it’s charged and fitted. The sensor is located on the back of the collar, against your dog's throat. As the collar detects barking, it senses the vibration and fires a small burst of citronella at their lower jaw. This usually distracts the dogs from whatever they're barking at, and they quickly associate it (the spraying of citronella) with their bark. Over time, you’ll see reduced barking as a result of this association.

 

It’s important that you install your dog’s bark collar correctly and gently. An incorrectly placed collar can cause your dog pain, and that’s not what the citronella collar is about. 

Start at the lowest setting for any bark collar you use. We think of bark collars as useful reinforcement tools and combine them with other positive reinforcement training. The device isn’t used for punishing behaviour, rather encouraging a specific type of behaviour. It’s also wise to choose a block of time in which to use the collar, and it’s not recommended leaving it on all day. We often see the collars being used at night or during special events that cause excessive barking during 8-10 hour windows.
